Hanami is the pleasurable art of Japanese cherry blossom, or sakura, viewing that occurs on one or two weekends during the short 10-day lifespan of the delicate pink buds. It is among the best of the many festivals and celebrations that dot the calendar each year. Usually a BBQ or picnic, Japanese sake is usually considered a must as hundreds of people squeeze together on tarps and blankets for hours and even days to enjoy the most beautiful week of the year.
