Hold That Thought

After all of that buildup, it turns out that Facebook is not the only site censored by the Chinese government.  Blogger and all Google affiliates (YouTube, search, etc.) are on that list as well.  I promise a post as soon as possible.

Bucket List Trip

Since my surgery, I have been largely unable to travel.  This being the main reason I came to Japan in the first place, you can imagine the severity of the cabin fever I've developed over the past year.  I'm about to receive a bit of travel shock therapy.

Today, I made my way to Tokyo and am spending the night a stone's throw from Haneda International Airport.  Tomorrow, I am heading to a country that only relatively recently opened to visitors, starting in one of the largest cities on the map (I'm told it's about the same size as the entire country of Belgium), touring the largest and one of the most famous city squares in the world (measured in football fields = 90), exploring the largest what was once the most inaccessible palace complexes known to man, riding through an ancient neighborhood by rickshaw, and tasting an internationally renowned delicacy for dinner.

That's just the first day.

Day 2 includes a private lesson in an ancient martial art and a lesson on its history before visiting a beautiful temple and stunning summer palace surrounded by some of the most picturesque scenery that will have ever graced this pair of eyes.  On day 3, I will take a drive out of the city to climb one of the seven wonders of the world in an off the beaten path location largely untouched for centuries before returning to the city for a tour of a few of the most unique Olympic venues we've seen in the modern era.  Then off to a dragon of a city that is rapidly becoming one of the premier financial powerhouses in the international arena, challenging the likes of New York, Hong Kong and London to experience some of the finer aspects of travel.  A trip of ultimate contrast: the hip and the historic, the ancient and the modern, the past and the future.

More to come soon.
